Goal journalist Charles Watts has reported on his YouTube channel that Mohamed Elneny will leave Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal at the end of the season.

The well-known and well-respected journalist has claimed that Elneny will leave Arsenal on a free transfer in the summer of 2022.

The 29-year-old Egypt international defensive midfielder is out of contract at Arsenal at the end of the season, and no new deal is in place at the moment.

Mohamed Elneny will leave Arsenal

Watts said on his YouTube channel: “Mohamed Elneny is going to go on free transfer. He will be off.”

Inevitable exit

In our opinion, there is no way that Arsenal will hand Elneny a new contract.

The season will end in a matter of weeks, and if the Gunners were keen on the former Basel player staying at the Emirates Stadium next season and beyond, then they would have sorted it by now.

Or at least tried to.

Elneny does not appear to be in the plans of Arsenal manager Arteta.

The £49,000-a-week midfielder (SalarySport) has made only one start and six substitute appearances in the Premier League so far this season.

There is no point in Arsenal keeping the midfielder, and letting him leave would help the Gunners save on his wages.

Elneny has scored one goal in 76 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career.
