Sevilla striker Youssef En-Nesyri could be an inspired addition to Jurgen Klopp’s Premier League giants Liverpool, former Anfield youngster and La Liga team-mate Nabil El Zhar tells Liverpool.com.

12 months ago, barely a day went by without En-Nesyri being linked with one European giant or another. Be it Arsenal, Inter Milan, Borussia Dortmund or Manchester United.

The Moroccan international was playing the best football of his career at Sevilla, breaking the 20-goal barrier for the very first time. West Ham United even made a bid in the region of £30 million, one that Sevilla refused to accept.

Flash forward to the present day, however, and there’s a reason why En-Nesyri is no longer such a regular in the gossip columns.

The fleet-footed centre-forward has scored just three times all season long. And while injuries and illness have played their part, the fact remains that En-Nesyri is not the same irrepressible goalscoring force who tore La Liga apart in 2020/21.

Is Youssef En-Nesyri good enough for Liverpool?

Nonetheless, former Leganes and Morocco team-mate El Zhar is convinced that a fully fit En-Nesyri has what it takes to thrive in the Premier League. Even at a club as demanding and expectant as Liverpool.

“He is a very good player,” says El Zhar, who played 21 league games for the Reds before moving to Spain.

“He caught Covid just before the African Cup of Nations and he struggled with injuries. But he is a very, very good player.

“He is a player who could do very well at Liverpool. He is quick, he runs a lot, he has a high speed, intensity, pressing the ball and is always moving on the pitch. He’s a very interesting player.

“He is a very good guy, too. When he came to Leganes, he was like a kid, and he was always listening to advice. He is a quiet guy who respects everyone and a great professional.”

Liverpool can boast arguably the most fearsome forward line in European football right now, though Klopp does look set to lose his seldom-seen supersub. Divock Origi will to join AC Milan on a free transfer in July.

Fears are also growing about Mo Salah’s future. Those contract talks are rumbling on with no end in sight.
