Tottenham academy talent Kallum Cesay has been called-up to Sierra Leone’s senior squad ahead of the March international break, with the Spurs youngster thriving at U-23 level this season.
The Sierra Leone Football Association announced on their official Twitter account that the 19-year-old defender will join up with the senior squad this week for the Leone Stars’ international friendlies against Toga and Liberia.
Sierra Leone were one of the stories of this year’s Africa Cup of Nations after their underdog results against Algeria and the Ivory Coast, and now for Cesay, the London-born youngster will be part of the same squad that captured football supporter’s hearts in January.
Cesay is yet to feature at first-team level for Tottenham this season. However, the teenage fullback has trained on numerous occasions for Antonio Conte’s squad, with the defender also impressing at youth level this campaign.
Naturally a left-back but also able to play on the right, Cesay has made over 20 appearances at U-23 level this season, with the academy talent starting every EFL Trophy fixture against the likes of Stevenage and Cambridge United.
Indeed, Cesay made the bench for three of Tottenham’s UEFA Europa Conference League matches, and now the youngster’s performances have been recognised with an international call-up for the Sierra Leone senior squad.
Sierra Leone call-up is massive for Cesay’s Tottenham dream

Cesay might not feature for Tottenham this season, but the youngster’s historic call-up to Sierra Leone’s senior squad for this month’s international break is huge if the fullback is to one day play for his boyhood club.
International football at such a young age will be a huge learning experience for Cesay, and given the physicality of some African nations, Cesay is well-suited to build skills needed for when he is eventually ready to play for Tottenham’s senior squad in the near future.
