Jamie Redknapp was left floored by a pass from Aaron Ramsdale in Arsenal’s 2-0 win against Leicester City this weekend.
Speaking on Sky Sports after the Gunners’ latest result in the Premier League, the pundit was impressed with Ramsdale’s performance between the sticks, with the 23-year-old keeping his 12th clean sheet of the season, more than what Arsenal achieved last campaign.
The England youngster has been at the centre of discussions in recent weeks with supporters believing that Ramsdale should replace Jordan Pickford as Gareth Southgate’s no. 1 ahead of this month’s international friendlies against Switzerland and the Ivory Coast.
And for Redknapp, Ramsdale deserves the nod, with the pundit blown away by a pass the Arsenal superstar did to Thomas Partey in the midfield, with the Gunners youngster taking his distribution to a new level this season.
Ramsdale was signed for a reported £30m according to the Athletic, and since then the former Sheffield United star has developed into one of the best keepers in the Premier League, with Redknapp impressed by the Arsenal star’s display against Leicester.
The Sky Sports pundit said: “What I like about him is he ticks every box. He’s not just a good goalkeeper. He played a ball into Partey in midfield today that even Glenn Hoddle couldn’t have played it, it was just unbelievable. A modern goalkeeper has to be good on the ball and also a great goalkeeper, and that’s what he is.”
Ramsdale’s latest Arsenal display must win him England’s no.1 spot

With England playing friendlies this international break, Southgate has a rare chance to experiment and tinker with the squad, and whilst Pickford normally delivers for the Three Lions, now is Ramsdale’s time to have a run after his performances with Arsenal.
After all, the 23-year-old has shown all season to have the quality and the potential to deliver in the Premier League, and for Ramsdale, the Arsenal star now deserves a chance to act as England’s no. 1 with Pickford’s performances for Everton dropping off a cliff.
