Sevilla sporting director Monchi has ruled out the signing of Real Madrid star Isco, who is reportedly on Tottenham’s radar.
In an interview with Mucho Deporte, the La Liga official cleared up recent rumours linking the Spanish international to Sevilla, with Isco set to leave Real Madrid this summer with his contract expiring with Los Blancos.
Whilst Monchi admitted he is a fan of the 29-year-old, the Sevilla transfer chief clearly states that nothing is happening with Isco, opening the door for Tottenham to sign the midfielder this off-season.
The Sunday Mirror (02/01, p67) reported that Real Madrid offered Isco to the north London side, with Carlo Ancelotti’s side eager to get the playmaker off their books with his contract set to expire in May.
Indeed, interest in Isco will be high this summer, yet if Monchi is to be believed, Sevilla won’t be one of the clubs chasing the Madrid star, who has a rumoured release clause of £593m according to the Sun.
Monchi said: “I haven’t heard Julen [Lopetegui] say he wants Isco. He has said he is a good player. And if you ask me I’d say he’s a good player. He’s different from [Jesus] Corona.
“With Corona there was a shared interest between what Lopetegui wanted and the recruitment side. Lopetegui likes Isco and so do I, but I will say nothing is happening.”
Sevilla’s stance on Isco is a huge boost for Tottenham

A creative midfielder is a must for Antonio Conte’s side this summer, and this update from Monchi on Sevilla’s stance on Isco is a huge boost for Tottenham, with the Spaniard a good option to bring something extra to the Spurs squad.
Labelled as ‘magical’ by Mauricio Pochettino, Isco could return to his best under Conte at Tottenham, and with Sevilla now out of the race for the 29-year-old, the north London side should view themselves as favourites to sign the playmaker.
