Arsenal will reportedly put contract talks with Alexandre Lacazette on ice until the end of the season, with the striker’s deal with the club expiring in the summer.
According to the Evening Standard, the north London side will come back to the situation surrounding the attacker’s contract in the summer, with Lacazette one of three players who is on course to become a free agent at the end of this season.
Mohamed Elneny and Eddie Nketiah are likely to depart the club in the summer, however, Lacazette’s situation isn’t so black and white. The striker has captained Arsenal since Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s banishment from the squad then move to FC Barcelona.
However, with Lacazette one of Arsenal’s highest-paid players at a reported £182,000-a-week and the forward underperforming in terms of goal contributions, it is likely that the forward will leave north London at the end of this season.
Although Lacazette is a key part of the Gunners’ front line with the Frenchman holding up and linking the play for the likes of Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe, his lack of individual goals is causing problems.
Indeed, with reports linking Arsenal to a new starting striker in the summer. However, despite Lacazette’s lack of goals this season, the Gunners could be smart to keep the forward around for a few more years.
Arsenal should sign Lacazette to a new contract with reduced wages

Arsenal currently face a situation where they will have to sign not one but two new strikers this summer. And because of this, keeping hold of either Lacazette or Nketiah could be smart business from the north London side.
Moreover, with Lacazette’s new leadership role in the squad, the Frenchman is the perfect candidate to keep hold of this summer, even more so if Arsenal can get the forward to sign a new contract on a reduced wage.
