Chelsea are the firm favourites to land Sevilla defender Jules Kounde, a player Tottenham are desperate to sign if reports are to be believed.

According to Super Deporte, the west London giants are ‘in the driving seat’ to sign the La Liga star, who has a release clause of €80m (£70m). Kounde has been in excellent form this season and is a key reason behind Sevilla’s charge for the league title.

As per the report, Tottenham are also in the mix to sign Kounde, with Spurs eager to sign the France international a year after the defender rejected a move to north London in the summer transfer window.

With Antonio Rudiger and Cesar Azpilicueta likely to leave Chelsea this summer, Kounde could be an excellent signing for Thomas Tuchel’s side as well as a player who has the quality to replace two players at once, much to the dismay of Tottenham.

Antonio Conte’s side will be keen to improve on their defence in the summer, with Spurs having a leaky backline that in recent weeks has cost them valuable points in the Premier League race for top-four.

And Kounde could have been perfect to slot into Tottenham’s back-three, with the Sevilla star an ideal candidate to play a role in Conte’s defensive 3-5-2 system that has worked wonders in recent years at both Chelsea and Inter Milan.

Kounde looks set to snub Tottenham again for Chelsea move

Neutral supporters had a good laugh last summer when reports emerged that Kounde had personally denied a move to Tottenham, and following the news this week, the Frenchman looks set to join Chelsea in the coming months.

Kounde has asserted himself as one of La Liga’s top defenders this season, and with Chelsea likely to offer the youngster regular football and UEFA Champions League football, the defender looks set to snub Tottenham again this summer.
