Paul Merson has written in The Daily Star that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta should seriously consider handing Kieran Tierney the captain’s armband.

The former Arsenal star does not think that Alexandre Lacazette is a suitable captain for the Gunners.

The Sky Sports pundit believes that Tierney is a more suitable captain for Arsenal and has outlined just how committed the former Celtic left-back is.

Merson wrote in The Daily Star: “Give it to someone like Tierney and start building now. I like Tierney. I think he’ll run through a brick wall for you.

“I think Ben White could be captain as well. One of those two. They are there for the long run. Why not?”

Kieran Tierney to become Arsenal captain?

In our view, Tierney is Arsenal captain material, and we do think that Aarteta should seriously consider the left-back.

Now, Lacazette is out of contract at Arsenal at the end of the season.

If the striker leaves the Gunners in the summer of 2022, then the North London club will need a replacement captain.

And, in our view, Tierney would be a good option.

The 24-year-old left-back has been on the books of Arsenal since 2019 and has been superb for the Gunners.

Yes, Tierney has had injury problems, but when fit and available, he has been brilliant.

The Scotland international is very committed on the ball, works hard for his team, leaves his all on the pitch, and is simply superb.
