Roy Keane has said on ITV (7:32pm, February 4, 2022) that he is open to becoming the new manager of Sunderland.
The Manchester United legend has said that he will see how things shape up regarding the Sunderland managerial job in the next few days.
The Northern Echo have reported that Keane, who now work as a pundit for Sky Sports and ITV, spoke to Sunderland over the managerial role at the Stadium of Light on Friday.
A number of senior figures at Sunderland reportedly want the former Manchester United star to take charge of the first team.
Former Hull City boss Grant McCann had an interview for the Black Cats’ job yesterday, according to The Northern Echo.
Keane said on ITV when asked about speculation regarding Sunderland: “I have no control over that. Sorry, no comment.”
When pressed further, the outspoken pundit added: “I have made that clear over the last few years – I would like to go back as a manager.
“But, of course, a club has to want you, you would want to go to that club, and it’s important that the contract’s got to be right. Listen, we will see how things take shape over the next few days.”

Would Roy Keane be good for Sunderland?
In our view, Keane would be a good managerial appointment for Sunderland, but there is an element of risk involved.
The 50-year-old was in charge of Sunderland from 2006 until 2008 and guided them to the Premier League.
Keane was then the manager of Ipswich Town, and has been part of the coaching team at the Republic of Ireland, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest.
We know how passionate and demanding Keane is, but, he has not been a full-time manager for a while now.
Sunderland are third in the League One table at the moment with 54 points from 29 matches, five points behind leaders Rotherham United, who have played 28 times.
