Sunderland have interviewed Alex Neil for an interview, while they hold talks with Roy Keane this afternoon, according to The Athletic.

The Athletic are reporting this afternoon that Sunderland will hold talks with the club’s former manager Keane this afternoon.

The Black Cats’ sporting director Kristjaan Speakman is due to speak to the Manchester United legend this afternoon.

However, according to The Athletic, Sunderland are talking to other managerial candidates as well.

The report has claimed that Sunderland have offered formal interviews to former Hull City boss Grant McCann, as well as to 40-year-old Neil, formerly at Norwich City and Preston North End.

Alex Neil would be good manager for Sunderland

In our view, Neil would be a good managerial candidate for Sunderland and could get the club back to the Championship.

The Black Cats are in a very good position to finish in the League One top two this season.

Sunderland are third in the League One table at the moment with 54 points from 29 matches, five points behind leaders Rotherham United, who have played 28 times.

The Black Cats need a manager who can get the job done.

And, in our opinion, Neil does have a good track record.

The 40-year-old guided Norwich to promotion from the Championship to the Premier League for the 2015-16 Premier League season.

Under Neil, Preston ended up seventh and ninth in the Championship, although there was a 14th-placed finish and he left in March 2021.
