Clinton Morrison has said on Sky Sports News (11:17pm, January 31, 2022) that he is disappointed that Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool have been unable to sign Fabio Carvalho.

The former Crystal Palace forward believes that Fulham attacking midfielder Carvalho would have been an outstanding signing for Liverpool in the January transfer window.

The Sky Sports pundit has saved about the 19-year-old, who can also operate as a winger.

As reported by well-known and well-respected football journalist Fabrizio Romano among others, Liverpool could not get the deal to sign Carvalho from Fulham over the line in time.

The Athletic have reported that the teenager even underwent a medical in London, but Liverpool and Fulham ran out of time to complete the deal in the end.

Morrison said: “I am gutted for Carvalho. He is a serious, serious talent, he is one of the best youngsters in the Championship. I thought he would have been outstanding for Liverpool.”

The Sky Sports pundit had said earlier on the show: “He is a player. He has lightened up the Championship. He has got so much ability. He would fit in that Liverpool side.

“He excites me, he is a talented individual. Jurgen Klopp would get the best out of him. He glides past people for fun in the Championship.”

Liverpool should go back for Fabio Carvalho in summer

In our view, Liverpool should go back for Carvalho in the summer of 2022.

The teenager will become a free agent at the end of the season, and Liverpool will have to pay a compensation fee to secure his services then.

However, Liverpool and Fulham could simply agree on the same fee that they struck on Monday and avoid the prospect of going to a tribunal.

Carvalho has made 15 starts and three substitute appearances in the Championship for Fulham so far this season.

The attacking midfielder has scored seven goals and given four assists in those matches.
