Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal had competition for Auston Trusty, according to the Colorado Rapids Executive VP & General Manager Padraig Smith, as quoted on the club’s official website.

Arsenal have signed Trusty from the Colorado Rapids, according to a statement on the Major League Soccer club’s official website.

The 23-year-old central defender will stay on loan at the Rapids until the end of the season and will then leave for Arsenal in the summer of 2022.

The transfer of Trusty to Arsenal comes as a surprise, especially as the Gunners do not need another central defender.

The Rapids’ Executive VP & General Manager Smith has spoken highly of Trusty, and has said that there was a lot of interest in him.

Smith told The Rapids’ official website: “Auston is coming off an exceptional season in 2021 in which he played a vital role in helping us finish atop the Western Conference for the first time in our history.

“We remain committed to bringing through the top young players from Colorado and across the United States and to providing them with a platform to flourish, achieve success in MLS and earn the chance to make a move to Europe.

“Auston’s outstanding performances caught the eye of several European clubs over the past 12 months and we are privileged to be part of an organization with the reach and scale of KSE that allows us to help a player of Auston’s potential further his development and career aspirations in Europe.”

Big chance for Auston Trusty at Arsenal

In our view, it is a big move for Trusty to go to Arsenal in the summer of 2022.

The 23-year-old is doing well in MLS, but the Premier League is a far superior domestic league.

And Trusty will know that.

We think that is a great chance for the 23-year-old to get the chance to play for Arsenal in the future.

The former USA Under-20 international centre-back has progressed well in recent years, and he will be looking to make an impact at Arsenal when he gets the chance to.

Arsenal have announced on their official website that their plan is to send the defender out on loan to a club in mainland Europe for the 2022-23 season ‘further progress his development.

So, it seems that Arsenal have signed Trusty for the long term.
