Even Arsenal’s summer transfer window might’ve gotten off to a dodgy start.
The Gunners are enduring an awful January window so far.
Arsenal’s only reported signing at the moment is one for the summer, with Matt Turner – who effectively confirmed his move to the Emirates this past weekend – joining the North Londoners in June [ESPN].
The USA goalkeeper was in action last night and, well, let’s just hope that Mikel Arteta and Edu weren’t watching him.
Double trouble
The Americans lost 2-0 to Canada and Turner made not one, but two mistakes for the hosts’ opening goal.
The Arsenal-bound stopper found a Canada player straight from an awful, aimless goal kick.
But it got worse for the 27-year-old because seconds later, Cyle Larin raced through on goal and fired beyond the visitors’ goalkeeper.
Thing is, the New England Revolution stalwart could and certainly should have saved it, with television replays indicating that Larin’s shot was pretty central but Turner didn’t get strong enough hands to parry it away to safety.
Distribution is a big thing for Arsenal manager Arteta.
It’s one of the reasons why £30 million was spent on Aaron Ramsdale last summer becuase not only is he brilliant at preventing goals, but his distribution is stellar.
Based on last night, Turner is a little raw when it comes to finding his own players with long balls and you have to say, this isn’t a promising start to life as a Gunner – albeit unofficially.
