Arsenal have missed out on the signing of Denis Zakaria to Juventus, with the transfer opening the door for Tottenham to sign Rodrigo Bentancur.
Fabrizio Romano took to Twitter to confirm that the Swiss international will be signing for the Serie A giants, with Zakaria set to fly to Turin with his agent ‘in the next hours’ to complete the deal.

The news will come as a blow for Arsenal, who have been linked with Zakaria this window. Fussball Transfers claim that the Gunners were keen on the 25-year-old this month, with Mikel Arteta eager to sign a midfielder to add depth and quality to the position.
The Bundesliga star has been one of Borussia Monchengladbach’s best players in recent years. However, the talented midfielder won’t be bringing his skills to England, with Juventus set to sign Zakaria in the coming hours.
As well as a blow for Arsenal, the move now means that north London rivals Tottenham can now complete the signing of Bentancur, who will become Antonio Conte’s first signing as manager of Spurs.
The Juventus midfielder has emerged as a target for Tottenham in recent days. And now with Zakaria on his way to Turin, Bentancur will be allowed to make the switch to the Premier League with Spurs.
Zakaria transfer to Juventus only adds to Arsenal’s January woes

Arsenal’s transfer window has been nothing short of unproductive, in terms of incomings. Whilst fringe players like Sead Kolasinac and Pablo Mari have left in some capacity, there is yet to be a new signing in the red half of north London. And this could prove to be the downfall of the Gunners’ season.
Indeed, everyone knows that Arsenal need a central midfielder. And in Zakaria, there was a perfect player to come in for the north Londoners to shore up the position and to add some much-needed balance.
However, like many Arsenal transfer sagas, the club have been beaten to punch. And for Juventus, the UEFA Champions League giants have landed a bargain in Zakaria.
