Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are interested in signing Gianluca Scamacca from Sassuolo in the January transfer window, according to FCInterNews.

The report in the Italian news outlet has claimed that Arsenal asked Scamacca’s agent, Alessandro Lucci, about signing him in the January transfer window.

Arsenal were told no.

The reason is that Scamacca wants to stay in Italy and has also turned down an offer to join Borussia Dortmund as a replacement for Erling Haaland in the summer of 2022.

FCInterNews have reported that defending Italian champions Inter are in advanced talks with Scamacca over signing him.

Arsenal reportedly asked about the 23-year-old Italy international striker during talks over signing Dejan Kulusevski from Juventus.

Gianluca Scamacca blow for Arsenal

Scamacca has made 12 starts and 10 substitute appearances in Serie A for Sassuolo so far this season, scoring nine goals in the process.

The Sassuolo no. 91 scored eight goals and provided two assists in 13 league starts last season.

The 23-year-old is a very young and promising striker who would be a good signing for Arsenal, not just for now, but in the long run as well.

However, it seems that it is Inter who will sign the striker and not Arsenal, which is a blow to manager Mikel Arteta’s side’s chances of signing a new player upfront.
