According to The Telegraph, Manchester United have shortlisted Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn ahead of a potential summer move.
United have been linked to McGinn for years at this point, but with Darren Fletcher reportedly a fan of the Scot, the Red Devils could finally make their move this summer.
This comes just days after McGinn missed Villa’s latest Premier League match against the Mancunian outfit.
However, it wasn’t too long ago that the Scot was shining against the Red Devils in the FA Cup.
McGinn is certainly a player capable of playing for a top side, and while Manchester United are struggling this season, they remain in the Champions League and will likely be in and around the top four in the coming years due to their sheer financial might.
McGinn will have two years left on his Villa contract at the end of this season, so it would be an apt time for him to make a move, and his stock has only risen since he arrived in the Premier League with the Midlands club back in 2019.
The midfielder has earned praise from fans and pundits alike, while Jurgen Klopp has even described him as a ‘super’ player in the past.
United certainly need to revamp their midfield, while Villa also reportedly have plans to bolster that area, with Yves Bissouma strongly linked over the past few weeks.
It will be interesting to follow this story into the summer. Steven Gerrard notoriously isn’t a big fan of United, so he may not be keen to sell one of his best players to the Old Trafford outfit, but as Villa only know too well, when one of the big boys comes calling, it’s incredibly hard to say no.
