Garth Crooks has said on BBC Sport that Jurgen Klopp should sign Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse to replace Georginio Wijnaldum.

The former Tottenham Hotspur forward believes that Southampton star Ward-Prowse would be perfect for Klopp’s Liverpool.

The BBC Sport thinks that the 27-year-old England international midfielder would be a suitable replacement for Wijnaldum.

Netherlands international midfielder Wijnaldum, linked with a move back to the Premier League with Arsenal and Newcastle United interested, left Liverpool at the end of last season and moved to Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer.

The BBC pundit made the comments in the wake of Ward-Prowse scoring from a free kick for Southampton against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League at the weekend.

Crooks said on BBC Sport: “The free-kick scored by Southampton’s James Ward-Prowse against Wolves was outstanding, though.

“How long are Liverpool going to wait to buy Ward-Prowse? They allowed Georginio Wijnaldum to leave on a free transfer and are struggling in that midfield department. Ward-Prowse would fit like a glove.”

Would James Ward-Prowse make Liverpool better?

In our view, Ward-Prowse would be a good signing for Liverpool and would make the former Premier League champions better in the middle of the park.

The 27-year-old is a dynamic midfielder who is also brilliant from set-pieces.

Ward-Prowse is at the top of his game at the moment and has extensive experience in the Premier League.

The Southampton star has scored 36 goals in 288 Premier League appearances so far in his career.

Ward-Prowse has scored 12 goals from free kicks and has created 41 big chances in those games.

Liverpool do have a good midfield department, but there is always room for more quality players.
