Peterborough United Director of Football Barry Fry has said that Tottenham Hotspur want to sign Benjamin Mensah in the January transfer window, as quoted in The Peterborough Telegraph.

Fry has said that Tottenham have made an offer for Mensah and want to take him to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The Posh director has added that he spoke to his club’s manager and chairman, who have decided to turn down Spurs’ bid.

However, according to Fry, Tottenham are still interested in the 19-year-old full-back and are monitoring the situation.

The Peterborough Telegraph quotes Fry as saying: “I have talked to Tottenham and they have suggested one or two things to me, which I told the manager and the chairman about but they were adamant it was a no. Tottenham are still monitoring the situation.

“Benjy has been so, so unlucky. If he hadn’t had the injuries and covid twice, he’d have been knocking on the door of the first team.

“It’s nice that clubs like Tottenham recognise his talent but we have declined everything that has been suggested.”

Could Tottenham Hotspur sign Benjamin Mensah?

In our view, Tottenham could still be able to sign Mensah despite not having initial success with their bids.

As Fry notes, Tottenham are still monitoring the teenager, which suggests that the Premier League club have not entirely given up on signing him.

So, in our view, if Spurs make a new and improved bid, then they could well be successful.

Perhaps Tottenham should increase their offer and also be open to keeping the teenager on loan at Peterborough for the rest of the season.

Mensah is part of the Peterborough first team, but he is too young to go directly into the Tottenham senior side.
