Dundee have agreed on the terms of a loan transfer for Celtic talent Osaze Urhoghide. But the defender is stalling on a move to Dens Park with his agent seeking a return to England.

That’s according to the Daily Record, who report James McPake’s side have an agreement with the Bhoys for Urhoghide’s arrival. The Dark Blues gaffer is eager to strengthen in the January sales, but has already seen striker Sam Cosgrove rebuff the Dee’s winter advances.

Dundee have sought to negotiate multiple deals since the mid-season market opened. Yet Jay Chapman remains their sole addition so far, and is still waiting to obtain a work permit.

Celtic responded to Dundee’s bid to sign Urhoghide in a half-season loan transfer warmly as the Hoops seek an exit. Ange Postecoglou wants his summer signing to leave Parkhead during January to secure regular game time over the remainder of the 2021/22 campaign.

However, Urhoghide is stalling on accepting Dundee’s offer as the Celtic defender’s agent attempts to secure a return to England. The Dutch-born prospect has so far only featured once for Postecoglou since leaving Sheffield Wednesday in July at the end of his contract.

McPake confirms Dundee loan transfer for Celtic’s Urhoghide has stalled

Postecoglou handed Urhoghide his sole appearance in Celtic’s dead-rubber Europa League win over Real Betis at right-back. The Australian boss has also overlooked the former Owls prospect Darren Moore called ‘immense’ in each of the Hoop’s last 15 Premiership squads.

So, Celtic agreed to send Urhoghide to Dundee in a loan transfer for the 21-year-old to play more regular minutes. McPake even held talks with the Englishman over the move. Yet the Dee may fall short in their pursuit, with the switch at a standstill.

“We spoke to Celtic regarding Osaze,” McPake said. “It’s got to the point where we have spoken to the player, spoken to the agent and it looked like it was going to happen. It has stalled unfortunately, at the minute.”

Postecoglou would reasonably expect Dundee to offer Urhoghide regular game time with a loan transfer for the Celtic talent. McPake’s side sit 11th in the Premiership after 20 games and boast the league’s worst defence. The Dee have conceded 37 goals so far this season.
