Blackburn Rovers manager Tony Mowbray has told The Lancashire Telegraph that he wants to sign Tottenham Hotspur forward Dilan Markanday in the January transfer window.

Mowbray has said that he is interested in signing the 20-year-old forward from Tottenham for his Blackburn side.

The Blackburn boss has added that Markanday is a player who fits the profile of signings that the Championship club want to make.

The Lancashire Telegraph have reported that Markanday is out of contract at Tottenham in the summer of 2022.

The report has added that the youngster was supposed to sign a new contract with Spurs before gong out on loan, but that has not happened yet.

Blackburn Rovers want Tottenham’s Dilan Markanday

Mowbray said: “I don’t know how close any deals are. Dilan Markanday has won a couple of player of the month awards in the Under-23s league.

“He’s a young boy, we’re aware of him, I’m not sure how close anything is.

“He fits the profile of the type of footballer we might want to sign somewhere down the line as a lot of clubs in this league would.

What should Markanday do?

In our opinion, Markanday should join Blackburn on loan from Tottenham in the January transfer window.

Now, of course, we understand that the 20-year-old forward will have to first sort out his contract situation with Tottenham.

That could take time.

But, if everything goes smoothly and the chance to join Blackburn on loan is still there, then Markanday should take it.

The 20-year-old has done well for the Tottenham Under-23 side.

Markanday has scored 12 goals and provided five assists in 14 Premier League 2 games so far this season.

We think that the attacker is now ready to take the next step in his career and play in a ‘competitive’ league.

Blackburn are aiming to finish in the Championship top two and win automatic promotion to the Premier League at the end of the season.

So, in our view, Markanday will be playing in a very competitive environment, and he will relish it.
