Dilan Markanday continued his brilliant goalscoring form for Tottenham’s Under-23 side on Monday evening, as the second string drew 1-1 with Manchester United. Spurs fans took to Twitter to praise Markanday.
The 20-year-old has been in stunning form for the club’s reserves. Coming into the season, he had only scored seven goals and laid on eight assists in 44 outings for the 23’s. But this season, his form has gone through the roof.
Markanday has had a hand in 19 goals in 17 appearances for the 23’s – scoring 12 goals and laying on seven assists. He has a contract at Tottenham until the summer, but a renewal is yet to be announced for Spurs.
His form has earned him a senior debut, coming on against Dutch side Vitesse in the Europa Conference League – which resulted in a 1-0 loss. On Monday, Tottenham’s 23’s returned to Premier League 2 action.
Markanday scored his 12th goal of the season for the reserves, equalising late on – with five minutes to play – to draw 1-1 with Manchester United. He now has six goals and three assists in his last seven PL2 games.
What are Tottenham fans saying about Markanday, after goal?
Tottenham have numerous options in Markanday’s position in the senior side. The versatile attacker has been playing on either flank and up front, but the path into the senior side seems shut – under Antonio Conte.
Despite a lack of form from the likes of Steven Bergwijn, Dele Alli, Gio Lo Celso, even Bryan Gil when he gets a chance – Markanday has not been handed a go under Conte. Spurs fans want a new deal, and a senior chance.
