Giuseppe Marotta has told Sport Mediaset that he is optimistic reported Newcastle United transfer target Marcelo Brozovic will sign a new contract with Inter Milan in the near future.
The Croatian midfielder is set to be a free agent this summer with his existing terms ending in June. He last signed an extension at the San Siro in October 2018 worth £106k-a-week.
Inter Milan are eager to prevent Brozovic from leaving for free as the 29-year-old remains a key figure in blue-and-black. Simone Inzaghi fielded the 70-cap international for the 27th time this season as the Nerazzurri beat Juventus in the Italian Supercoppa on Wednesday.

Brozovic started and played all 120-minutes of Inter Milan’s 2-1 victory over Juventus after extra-time. He has also opened all 20 of his Serie A and six Champions League outings.
Inzaghi has only also started goalkeeper Samir Handanovic in all 20 of the Nerazzurri’s Serie A fixtures this term. While Brozovic has provided a goal and two assists in all competitions.
Marotta confident Brozovic pens new Inter Milan contract
Marotta is confident Brozovic will soon agree to sign a new contract with Inter Milan, despite transfer interest from Newcastle. Gazzetta dello Sport report they have also reached an agreement on a deal to 2026. It will even earn him less than he would at St James’ Park.
Newcastle were ready to pay Brozovic €8m-a-year (£128k-a/w), but he will earn €6m-a-year (£96k-a/w) at Inter Milan. But bonuses can add an additional €1m (£850k) to his wage.

Brozovic had sought to earn €8m annually with his next contract. But he has settled for less as he feels connected at the San Siro. He also wants to remain playing at the top level.
Inter Milan are likely to finalise Brozovic’s new contract this week, ending Newcastle’s hope of a transfer. But while confident, Marotta claims his club are not yet over the final hurdle.
Marotta said: “On both sides there, is the will to reach a conclusion, even if we are not yet at this point. “In any case, the path is the right one and I am optimistic that the definition will come as soon as possible.”
