Norwich City midfielder Todd Cantwell could soon sign for Newcastle United in the January transfer window, according to The Telegraph.

The Telegraph has reported that Newcastle want to sign Cantwell from Norwich in the January transfer window.

The report has claimed that ‘Cantwell may soon be the second signing’ for Eddie Howe’s side following the arrival of former Tottenham Hotspur right-back Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid earlier this month.

Now, it seems that Chris Wood will become the second January signing for Newcastle.

The Northern Echo have reported this evening that the Burnley striker will undergo a medical at Newcastle in the next 24 hours and then link up with the Magpies in a £20 million deal.

However, The Telegraph‘s report suggests that Cantwell could join Wood at Newcastle soon.

Would Todd Cantwell make Newcastle better?

In our view, Cantwell would make Newcastle a better team, not just for now, but for years to come.

After all, the former England Under-21 international midfielder is only 23 and has time on his hands to get better and improve.

Cantwell has played out on the wide for Norwich so far this season, and his creativity and dynamism could help Newcastle in their quest to escape the dreaded drop to the Championship at the end of the season.

The Englishman has scored six goals and created one big chance in 45 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career.

Signing Cantwell from relegation rivals Norwich would make the Canaries weaker, and that can only help Newcastle in their fight to stay in the Premier League.
