South American football expert Tim Vickery has warned Arsenal about their reported interest in Palmeiras midfielder Danilo.
Writing on ESPN, the pundit suggested that the 20-year-old Brazilian could fail to live up to expectations should he move to London this January, with Arsenal eager to sign a central midfielder this month.
As reported by Esportes, Arsenal are interested in Danilo this January, with the report even stating that a R$160 million (£21m) bid has been made by the Gunners for the Copa Libertadores winner.
A key player for the back-to-back South American champions, Danilo has earned a solid reputation for himself after playing a key role for Palmeiras over the past three years, with his form seemingly catching the eye of Arsenal.
Indeed, the Gunners seem serious about the youngster. However, Vickey has warned Arsenal that the Brazilian won’t be a short-term fix for the club’s current lack of squad depth in the midfield.
Vickery wrote about the South American sensation: “The 20-year-old Brazilian would not be a short-term fix. Danilo would be a long-term investment. It’s hard to imagine making him an immediate impact, which should not be interpreted as a criticism of a very promising player.”
Arsenal are right to head Vickery’s warning on Danilo

Nothing gets football fans more excited than their club signing a young player from Brazil. Yet for Arsenal, signing Danilo could be a risk given what Mikel Arteta’s side need for both the short-term and long-term.
There’s no denying Danilo’s quality and potential. However, for what Arsenal need, they could be better off signing a midfielder who is established in Europe and won’t require several months to adapt to the culture of the club and Arteta’ philosophy.
