The Times report that Newcastle United are now ‘confident’ of securing a loan deal to sign Juventus midfielder Aaron Ramsey on loan. The report claims he will become the club’s highest-paid player, on £125,000 a week.

Ramsey, 31, is struggling for game time at Juventus – since the return of Max Allegri. He has managed just five appearances in all competitions, and Allegri confirmed this week that Ramsey is in fact an “outgoing player”.

Newcastle have been strongly linked with a move to sign Ramsey, given their new owners are likely to be one of the only clubs able to afford him. 90Min say Juventus are even willing to let him leave the club on a free.

The previous report also states that Leeds, Everton, Leicester, Palace and Wolves have shown interest. But now it appears Newcastle are ‘confident’ of a loan, in which they will pay Ramsey half his £250,000-a-week wage.

Ramsey loan a massive signal of Newcastle intent, after Trippier

With Kieran Trippier already through the doors and an announcement expected, Ramsey is the perfect next step. A loan deal might be more favourable to Ramsey, given Newcastle’s currently perilous situation.

Landing Ramsey on loan is also a good move from Newcastle. Injuries have hampered Ramsey and if he is not the same player he once was – then he can simply return to Juventus. But it is an exciting move.

Paying Juventus half of his £250,000-a-week wages will see Ramsey become Newcastle’s highest-paid player – eclipsing Trippier, who will earn £100,000 a week. Exciting times, for Newcastle and their fans.
