Millwall manager Gary Rowett admits that the club may not be able to hold onto Jed Wallace amid interest from Nottingham Forest and Premier League Leeds United, speaking to the South London Press.
In truth, The Lions have done pretty well to retain the winger’s services for as long as they have.
Despite performing at a consistently high level throughout his time at The Den, one of the most talented attackers in the Championship remains a Millwall player.
But not for much longer, it seems.
Wallace will become a free-agent this summer. Millwall have already turned down a pair of ‘derisory’ bids from second-tier rivals Nottingham Forest.
Retaining his services, in the face of interest from top-flight pair Leeds and Watford however, may be easier said than done, particularly with his contract situation making life even more difficult for the London club (The News).
Could Jed Wallace leave Millwall for the Premier League?
“We’re in a situation where we would love Jed to stay and sign a new contract, but he is out of contract at the end of the season,” admits Rowett.
Understandably, Millwall would rather avoid losing Wallace on a free. Difficult decisions need to be made then; Do they cash in now and take the money, at the expense of a potential play-off berth?

“We have to be open-minded to all scenarios,” Rowett adds. “What we don’t want to do is lose one of our best players over the past four or five seasons for nothing.”
Wallace, a one-time Wolverhampton Wanderer winger, was linked with a £10 million move to Aston Villa back in 2019.
Millwall can forget about commanding that sort of fee these days though, as Nottingham Forest have discovered, they will not let their 27-year-old talisman depart for next to nothing.
An upwardly-mobile Forest side have snapped up Keinan Davis on loan from Aston Villa and are also set to sign the versatile Richie Laryea in a £750,000 deal from Toronto FC.
