According to Fussball Transfers, Arsenal held talks over the signing of Denis Zakaria at the beginning of December, with his contract close to expiring.
Now, Borussia Monchengladbach have made a significant announcement in regards to the future of their No.8 – it’s good news for the Gunners.
What’s the story?
Well, the Bundesliga club have announced that Zakaria will leave the Borussia Park Stadium in June when his contract comes to an end.
Along with Matthias Ginter, the 40-cap Switzerland international will be moving clubs in the summer after both players expressed a desire to try something new.
That bodes well for Arsenal, who could now be set to secure a bargain in the man who has been likened to Patrick Vieira.
If Mikel Arteta can’t wait until June, then Borussia Monchengladbach would surely be open to a January sale, in our view.
This winter, the German outfit could at least make some money on the 25-year-old, rather than watch him depart for free in June.
Will Denis Zakaria replace Ainsley Maitland-Niles at Arsenal?

Interestingly, Arsenal’s talks with Zakaria come amid a time where the future of Ainsley Maitland-Niles is uncertain.
According to ESPN, Roma have made contact with Arsenal over a move for the 24-year-old, who is open to joining José Mourinho in Rome.
Should he depart the Emirates Stadium, Arteta would be left with Granit Xhaka, Mohamed Elneny, Martin Ødegaard, Thomas Partey and Albert Sambi Lokonga as his only central midfield options.

For a side hoping to compete in the Champions League, the Gunners need more depth in that department.
Keep an eye on this saga – Zakaria will definitely be leaving in June, but a January move to Arsenal cannot be ruled out at this stage.
