According to Sport Unian, Vitaliy Mykolenko is set to receive a ‘dizzying’ salary when he completes his proposed move to Everton in January.

What’s the story?

Well, the 22-year-old has already undergone a medical at Goodison Park, as Everton get set to announce their first signing of the winter window.

Mykolenko will arrive to replace Lucas Digne, who has fallen out with Rafa Benitez and looks likely to leave the Toffees as a result.

Interestingly, 90min believe the Frenchman has expressed a desire to join Chelsea, following the news that Ben Chilwell will miss the rest of the season.

Sport Unian believe the ‘dizzying’ salary will be worth £58,000-a-week, which represents a significant increase on the left-back’s current £37,205-a-month salary.

In fact, it is seven times his current salary.

Vitaliy Mykolenko could help Everton with Financial Fair Play issues

While some fans will be sad to see Digne leave, this deal could actually help the Toffees balance their books.

Admittedly, a £17.9m signing earning £58,000-a-week isn’t necessarily cheap.

However, Digne earns £119,000-a-week, and could easily fetch £20m as he remains a top left-back in his prime.

If the Toffees can recoup such a fee, then swapping the Frenchman for the Ukraine international could actually help loosen the pursestrings at Goodison Park for Benitez.

If Mykolenko is a success, and Everton do receive a hefty fee for Digne, it has to be considered a shrewd move by the Toffees.

After all, the Ukrainian is six years younger than Digne, so it represents clever succession planning from Everton, something we haven’t seen much of at Goodison Park under Farhad Moshiri.
