Everton defender Lucas Digne could be on his way to Chelsea in January after Ben Chilwell was ruled out for the rest of the season.
We almost knew this was coming, but Chelsea confirmed on Tuesday that Chilwell wins miss the rest of the campaign with a major knee injury.
Chilwell hast’t played since the 4-0 Champions League win over Juventus in November, with Marcos Alonso filling in.
Alonso hasn’t been nearly as good as Chilwell, which may leave Thomas Tuchel dipping into the transfer market.
If only there was an experienced Premier League left back potentially available in January to fill in.
That’s where Digne could come in, ticking the boxes for Chelsea given his recent Everton exile.
The Frenchman has been out of the Everton side of late, seemingly not in Rafael Benitez’s immediate plans.
Everton have now agreed to sign Dynamo Kiev star Vitaliy Mykolenko in January, seemingly arriving as Digne’s replacement.
Digne has been with Everton since a £20million move from Barcelona in 2018, making 125 appearances.

90Min claim that Chelsea are ready to make their move for Digne having held talks to sign him back in 2020 – before landing Chilwell.
Chelsea now see Digne as the perfect man to fill in, and are willing to strike a permanent deal. That may just spell the end for Alonso come the end of the season.
Digne has made it clear through his representatives that he wants to go to Chelsea, meaning we could see this switch move forward very quickly.
Seeing Digne’s time at Everton end like this would leave a sour taste, but with Mykolenko on his way in, the sooner this situation is resolved, the better.
