Alan Shearer has blasted Harry Kane and shared that he was ‘out of control’ for his tackle on Andy Robertson during Tottenham’s 2-2 draw against Liverpool, as he told Match of the Day.

The BBC pundit added that ‘for the life of me’ he couldn’t understand why the Spurs striker wasn’t sent off – and even admitted that he got a favourable decision because he is the England captain.

In the first half of yesterday’s game, Kane lunged in on Robertson, with his studs-up, and was shown a yellow card by the on-field referee Paul Tierney.

VAR looked at the incident from Stockley Park, but they didn’t inform Tierney to go to the VAR screen to look at the tackle at second viewing.

All of this became even more controversial given what happened later on in the game.

Nonetheless, the call on Kane left Shearer baffled, especially when Robertson was sent off after Tierney was told to check at the screen for his kick out at Emerson Royal in the second half.

“Some of the decisions were so bad that it was unbelievable,” said Shearer. “For the life of me, I look at some of these decisions and I can’t believe it.

“That without doubt should be a red card. He is out of control. He is high. He is very, very lucky that Robertson sees him coming and jumps out of the way.

“He’s not even looking at it. He doesn’t know where his tackle is going to go. It’s without a doubt a red card, it should be.”

The on-field referee gave both tackles a yellow card on initial viewing, the problem clearly lies with those on VAR duty.

It’s baffling why they didn’t go and check the Kane tackle, yet they did with Robertson because that’s where the inconsistencies lie.

This could have had a big bearing on what happened during the game because if Kane is sent off, then Spurs probably walk away from the game without any points.

Even though those from the outside felt Kane deserved to be given his marching orders, the player himself shared an interesting take on the matter.

Kane defended his tackle after the game, but he interestingly shared that Robertson didn’t think his challenge on him was even a foul, as he told Sky Sports.
