It’s been a difficult last few months for Arsenal and in particular, one of their players – Mesut Ozil.
The former Germany international was exiled by Mikel Arteta in October, left out of his Premier League and Europa League squad.
Since then, Arsenal have struggled in a big way with regards to creating goalscoring chances and at the moment, only five teams in the Premier League have netted less than the Gunners’ haul of 16 in 16 games.
Ozil hasn’t kicked a ball under Arteta since way back in March but The Telegraph has reported that the 32-year-old continues to impress behind the scenes at London Colney.
The report adds that Ozil is actually one of the best players in training and that the Spanish coach will review the situation this month if he can trim the squad.
With only six months left on his contract, the former Real Madrid playmaker is in the twilight of his Arsenal career and if Arteta deems him more of a help than a hindrance, recalling him into the Premier League and Europa League squad makes complete sense.
It’s been a dreadful season for Arsenal, who sit 13th in the Premier League, but it’s not too late to turn it around during the next six months.
The North Londoners are only nine points behind fourth-placed Everton – who have played one game more – so there is still a lot to play for.
But Arsenal certainly need to go on a good run of wins and frankly, that’s more possible with Ozil than without him.
