Fabrizio Romano claims on his official Twitter account that Bodo/Glimt star Patrick Berg is set to join Ligue 1 outfit Lens despite reported interest from Scottish Premiership giants Celtic.

Bodo/Glimt’s 6-1 thrashing of Jose Mourinho’s Roma set shockwaves rippling through European football.

And an already-remarkable result looks even more impressive when you consider that the Norwegian minnows battered one of Italy’s biggest clubs without three of their title-winning heroes.

Kasper Junker, Jens Petter Hauge and Philip Zinckernagel departed for Urawa Red Diamonds, AC Milan and Watford respectively after Bodo/Glimt won their first-ever domestic title in late-2020.

But if you thought that would be the end of Bodo/Glimt’s time at the top of the tree, think again.

Not only did the Arctic Circle outfit deliver one of the most humiliating results in Roma’s European history this season, they also sealed a second successive Norwegian title.

Put simply, the departures of Junker, Hauge and Zinckernagel have been emphatically overcome.

The impending exit of long-serving academy graduate Berg, then, may be a disappointment but it’s far from a disaster.

Who will be Celtic’s first January signing?

Scottish Premiership challengers Celtic are reportedly keen on the 24-year-old Norway international. But, according to Romano, Berg is signing a five-year contract with Ligue 1 surprise-packages RC Lens instead.

Ostensibly a defensively-minded midfield player, Berg produced an impressive eight goals in 41 games during another outstanding campaign for Bodo/Glimt.

According to Transfermarkt, he will depart on a free-transfer when his contract expires later in December.

Celtic look set to miss out then.

But, on the upside, Ange Postecoglou’s in-form Hoops appear to be closing in on a deal for another deep-lying midfielder.

Celtic have reportedly agreed a bargain £850,000 deal to bring in Japan international Yosuke Ideguchi from J-League outfit Gamba Osaka.

Gremio’s Brazilian youngster Fernando Henrique is another linked with the Parkhead outfit. Celtic reportedly held talks regarding a potential £3.3 million deal for Henrique earlier this year.
