BT Sport pundit Jermaine Jenas was blown away by a piece of Mohamed Salah brilliance during the first half of Liverpool vs Newcastle United.
Liverpool went behind early on at Anfield to a fantastic Jonjo Shelvey strike but they quickly turned things around and eventually ran out 3-1 winners to keep the pressure on league leaders Man City.

Liverpool too strong for Newcastle
Diogo Jota, Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold were on the scoresheet in what was an eighth consecutive win in all competitions since a 3-2 defeat to West Ham at the London Stadium in early November.
Alexander-Arnold’s superb strike was undoubtedly the pick of the goals but Salah was also lauded in the BT Sport studio, not just for his goal, but also for a remarkable cross.
In the 33rd minute, centre-back Ibrahim Konate played the ball out to the Egyptian international on the right flank.
Most mere mortals would have opted to take a touch before trying to swing a delivery into the box.
Yet, Salah opted to audaciously cross first time on the half-volley with the outside of his left foot.
The arcing delivery looked to be heading straight into Sadio Mané’s path around six yards from goal, but Fabian Schar pulled off a last-ditch clearance.

Salah’s first-time cross wows Jenas and Cole
Salah’s brilliance may not have led to a goal, but it certainly wowed Jermaine Jenas and Joe Cole.
“Technically, this is outrageous,” said Jenas over a clip of the moment in question [BT Sport 1 16/12 20:55].
“I mean, I was going crazy but you know what Joe is like. Half-volley, outside of the left boot, I mean…”
“I think that would have been the best cross that I’ve seen in the Premier League [had it resulted in a goal],” interjected Cole. “I got very excited about it!”
We’re sure Salah was disappointed that his brilliance didn’t lead to a goal for his teammate.
However, given that Liverpool still picked up all three points and he equalled Jamie Vardy’s record for scoring or assisting in 15 successive Premier League matches, it was still an excellent night at the office for the 29-year-old.
In other news, a Liverpool target has been named teenager of 2021/22 so far, above Jude Bellingham.
