Some West Ham fans on social media have been full of praise for Craig Dawson despite the fact they lost 2-0 to Arsenal on Wednesday.

How did Dawson play?

Arsenal may have beaten West Ham 2-0, but perhaps it could have been more if Dawson wasn’t at his best.

The centre-back was incredibly tenacious against Arsenal. He continuously put his body on the line and for a period, there was no way past him.

He made four blocks and two tackles, but, sadly, his efforts weren’t enough to keep the Gunners at bay for the entire game.

Indeed, Gabriel Martinelli was able to break the Hammers’ resistance before Emile Smith Rowe sealed the victory for Mikel Arteta’s side.

Understandably, West Ham fans weren’t happy with the result, but that didn’t stop the West Ham fanbase giving Dawson the credit he deserved.

Stepping up

Dawson is now the Hammers’ first-choice centre-half after Angelo Ogbonna and Kurt Zouma both went down with injuries, and it’s fair to say he’s stepping up.

The centre-back is covering brilliantly for Ogbonna and Zouma, but sadly, even the best defence in the world could have struggled against Arsenal on Wednesday.

Fan reaction

West Ham fans were in awe of the defender’s showing against Arsenal, and here’s what fans of the London club have been saying on social media…
