Richard Foster hailed Joe Aribo as Rangers’ ‘star-man’ against St Johnstone on Wednesday night, while also praising Alfredo Morelos on BBC Sportsound (15/12, 20:45) for his goal.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s Gers beat Callum Davidson’s Saints 2-0 at Ibrox thanks to goals from Morelos and Ryan Kent. The Colombian headed home to break the deadlock after 43-minutes to reward the host’s dominance, before feeding Kent four-minutes after the break.

Rangers enjoyed almost total control through the first-half before Morelos hit his seventh Premiership goal of the season so far. He also now has four assists over 16 appearances.

St Johnstone clung on for as long as they could before Morelos met Connor Goldson’s ball at the back post. The 25-year-old then turned provider with his cut back from Aribo’s pass setting Kent up from close-range.

Foster hails Aribo and Morelos in Rangers win over St Johnstone

Aribo and Morelos impressed former Rangers defender Foster during the Gers’ win over St Johnstone on Wednesday. The player-turned-pundit admired the latter’s work to position himself to score, while the former stood out for helping the Ibrox natives to take control.

“As all good strikers do, Morelos peeled off his man and got himself a free header,” Foster said. “He’ll hardly ever score an easier goal. Joe Aribo has been Rangers’ star-man so far this evening. Even before the goal, it was already a bit of a training match for them.”

Morelos had started slowly against St Johnstone, but the Rangers forward soon grew into the game and looked sharp. He now has three goals and two assists in five Premiership games under Van Bronckhorst, having struck home in each of his last three appearances.

Aribo he ‘star-man’ in dominant Ibrox display

While Morelos impressed, scored and assisted against St Johnstone, Aribo was the cream of the Rangers crop, as Foster says. The midfielder started brightly when he struck the post from the edge of the box and showed great ball control.

Aribo’s work without the ball also helped to keep a lid on the Saints’ attempts as the Gers regained possession. But his ability to find pockets of space was the 25-year-old’s best trait.
