Celtic and Rangers have shown an interest in Jeando Fuchs but team-mate Peter Pawlett is hoping to see the Dundee United star commit his future to the Scottish Premiership club, speaking to the Daily Record.

If Dundee United could turn back the clock, we’re pretty sure they would look to tie Fuchs down to a longer deal.

The Cameroon international signed a two-year contract when he arrived at Tannadice in October 2020. And, as a result, he will be a free-agent within a matter of months.

Fuchs, speaking to FootMercato recently, admitted that Celtic and Rangers had been in touch.

A handful of clubs from below the border, including Blackpool, Peterborough United and ambitious Wigan Athletic, are interested. So too are Bundesliga giants VFB Stuttgart.

Now, Dundee United boss Tam Courts was relucant to give much away when asked about Fuchs’ future last week.

But Pawlett, Fuchs’ 30-year-old team-mate, was a little more forthcoming when asked about the former Alaves and Sochaux enforcer.

Could Jeando Fuchs leave Dundee United for Celtic and Rangers?

“I’d love to see them sign new contracts,” said Pawlett.

Goalkeeper Benjamin Siegrist and midfielder Ian Harkes will be available on free transfers in the summer of 2022, like Fuchs.

“We want good players in our team and I want to play with players like that, but everyone has different ambitions,” Palwett adds.

“It might be that those ambitions are at Dundee United and to help the club go even further. Let’s hope and pray that’s the case.

“When there’s a bit of uncertainty and people could leave it might cause a bit of unrest. Dundee United has lost players in the past and rebuilt to be successful again, so either way we’ll continue to fight.

“But of course, we’d like Benji, Jeando and Ian to be here longer.”

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s Rangers may be forced into the market for a new central midfielder sooner rather than later, with Steven Davis now 36 and his influence waning.

Glen Kamara is regularly linked with a move to the Premier League while Ryan Jack has made just three appearances this season due to injury.

Celtic, however, appear to have be moving on from Fuchs. The Glasgow giants are on the verge of signing two J-League midfielders in Reo Hatate and Yosuke Ideghuchi.
