Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou has been full of praise for Liam Scales after their win over Dundee United.
The Hoops have closed the gap on Rangers to four points after their 3-0 win at Tannadice Park.
Scales, 23, was handed his league debut yesterday after coming off the bench and scored to cap off a successful day for his side. Tom Rogic and David Turnbull got the other goals.
The former Republic of Ireland youth international has had to bide his time for opportunities since making the move to Glasgow.
He has made a handful of cup appearances but has had to wait four months for his first appearance in the Scottish Premiership.
Celtic boss appreciates Scales’ patience
Postecoglou has hailed the centre-back, as per the club’s official website:
“For any player at the start of his Celtic career, he wants to start off as positive as possible and the dream is, can you score when you’re beginning your career?
“So it’s great for him, he’s worked hard in training every day just waiting for his opportunity, and, like with all these guys, I can’t guarantee them when that will come.
“If it does come for them, they’ve got to be ready for it and Scales is doing everything right in training to make sure that he’s ready.”
Start of something special for Scales at Celtic?
Scales will be hoping that his goal can help him get more game time over the coming weeks.
He penned a four-year contract in August and could prove to be a decent long-term option.
Prior to his move to Celtic Park, he started out in Ireland at UCD before earning a switch to Shamrock Rovers last year.
The defender then played 51 times for Rovers and helped them win the League of Ireland Premier Division before Celtic came calling.
