Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte has told Football London that Ryan Sessegnon will start against Mura tomorrow.
Team news drops
Spurs are set to take on the Slovenian side in the Conference League on Thursday, with Conte expected to ring the changes.
Sessegnon came off the bench for Spurs at the weekend, as he helped them see out a 2-1 victory over Leeds United.
And it seems that the left-back could now get his first starting chance under the Italian tomorrow.
“He’s ready to start the game,” Conte said. “I can’t wait to see his performance because he is a talented player with space for improvement.”
Sessegnon’s big chance
It looks like a huge chance for Sessegnon, who has endured a difficult time since moving to Tottenham.
Spurs paid a considerable fee to sign him as a teenager from Fulham, but injury issues have really set him back.
Sessegnon was actually loaned out to Hoffenheim last season, as he failed to get a look in at Spurs under Jose Mourinho.
However, with Conte using wing-backs in his system, it could suit the youngster down to the ground.
Sessegnon was on media duty this morning and he even said himself that Conte’s system looked ‘perfect’ for him.
It will be important that he does impress tomorrow too, if he wants to earn more regular game time.
Breaking into the side ahead of Sergio Reguilon could be tough, but there is a real chance that he could go in as immediate back-up in the left wing-back slot.
Tottenham do need a win tomorrow evening, as their progress from their Conference League group is still not secured – with the North London side only collecting seven points from their first four games to date.
