What a player Liverpool have in the form of Thiago.
The Spain international reminded Liverpool fans of his quality in the 4-0 demolition of Arsenal last weekend.
He wasn’t among the goals, but Thiago was at the heart of everything that Jurgen Klopp’s side created in an attacking sense.
The 30-year-old needed a performance like that after what’s been a stop-start first 15 months at Anfield.
There was speculation from Bild last week that Barcelona could try and re-sign their former academy gem in January.
But reliable Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has poured cold water on this rumour, claiming he is focused on the Reds.
He told his Here We Go podcast: “I’m told this is 100 percent true [that he is focused on Liverpool]. Barcelona have never contacted Liverpool about Thiago. Of course they consider him a magnificent player, but there is no negotiation with Thiago or Liverpool.”
Good news?
In a word, absolutely.
Klopp isn’t flush with quality midfielders – well, not fit ones anyway.
Liverpool have Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott and James Milner sidelined, while Jordan Henderson also sat out the win over Arsenal through injury.
And with the Merseysiders failing to replace Georginio Wijnaldum, it’s more important than ever that Klopp keeps his best midfielders at the club.
And as he proved on Saturday, Thiago is certainly one of Liverpool’s strongest players for this role.
Simply put, the man is an absolute maestro and despite being 30, and a little prone to niggling injuries, this is still a huge player for the Anfield side and it’s definitely a boost if he’s staying put.
