Aston Villa have yet to make contact with Stuttgart over a move to sign defender Borna Sosa in the January transfer window.
Steven Gerrard has only been in the Villa job for just over a week, but seems to know his transfer priority already.
The Sun reported over the weekend that Gerrard wants a new left back at Aston Villa.
The Sunday Mirror then noted that Gerrard wants to offer £8million for Rangers left back Borna Barisic.
Spare a thought for Matt Targett. From being Villa’s first-choice left back to now having to look nervously over his shoulder, Targett may be dreading a new arrival.
Barisic isn’t even the only Croatian in the mix. Remarkably, not even the only Borna in the mix!
Aston Villa fancy Stuttgart’s Borna Sosa?
German newspaper Bild claim that ‘English transfer experts’ suggest that Villa want to land Sosa.
We’re not entirely sure who those experts are, but Bild believe it’s serious enough to have investigated the move.
They claim that Villa have yet to make contact over a deal for Sosa. The fee in question would be a huge €30million (£25million).
Stuttgart would be reluctant to sell, but ultimately need cash due to the global pandemic.
If Villa do come in with such an offer for Sosa, Stuttgart may find it hard to say no. After all, they only paid €8million (£6.7million) for Sosa in 2018.

What would Sosa offer Gerrard?
After utilising Barisic as an attacking weapon at Rangers, you can see why Gerrard may fancy his compatriot Sosa.
The 23-year-old already has three assists in 12 Bundesliga games this season. With 18 assists in 67 games for Stuttgart, Sosa’s attacking output has been massive.
What’s amazing is that Sosa’s crossing ability is so good that he has been likened to David Beckham.
Gerrard of course played with Beckham on England duty, seeing first-hand what his crossing ability can bring.
Sosa could be the man to provide that for Villa – if Gerrard really is keen on the Croatian international.
