Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana has rejected an approach from Arsenal in favour of signing for Italian side Inter Milan instead.

That’s according to Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who claim that Onana has ‘just said no’ to Arsenal.

Instead, Onana has reached a provisional agreement to join Inter Milan.

The deal will become official in February, with Onans signing a pre-contract agreement to join the Italian side.

Inter are giving Onana a three-year contract worth €3million-a-year. That works out to around £48,000-a-week.

It’s worth noting that Onana has been out for the whole of this season so far.

A doping ban means Onana has been in the stands at Ajax, save for the last two games in which Onana was on the bench.

That hasn’t put teams off though, as they know just how good Onana can be on his day.

Inter allegedly aren’t sure yet whether Onana will be their number one next season or sit behind Samir Handanovic for a while, but they have still fended off Arsenal.

Arsenal’s interest in Onana

Arsenal are expecting to lose Bernd Leno in 2022 after he was dropped in favour of Aaron Ramsdale.

That would leave Arsenal needing to find another goalkeeper to compete with Ramsdale.

Onana has long been linked with Arsenal, and signing him on a free transfer would have been hugely appealing.

Football.London reported in June that Arsenal goalkeeping coach Inaki Cana had been recommending a move for Onana.

The pair worked together in the Barcelona ranks, with Cana still a keen admirer of the Cameroonian ace.

This will seemingly leave Arsenal to go back to the drawing board in pursuit of another goalkeeper, with Onana Italy-bound.
