Arsenal are interested in signing Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana on the recommendation of Inaki Cana, according to Football.London.

The Gunners have concerns over the future of Bernd Leno, who could be on the move this summer, whilst Mat Ryan has gone back to Brighton and Hove Albion.

Arsenal will therefore need one, possibly two goalkeepers this summer, and Onana is thought to be a prime target.

Cana’s latest recommendation

This isn’t the first time Arsenal have taken a recommendation from goalkeeping coach Cana, having targeted Brentford’s David Raya.

Cana also told Arsenal to sign Runar Runarsson, having worked with him at Danish side Nordsjaelland – but the Icelandic stopper has been poor for the Gunners.

Fans have been concerned about Cana’s recommendations after Runarsson’s struggles and seeing Raya produce some odd moments at Brentford.

It’s now stated that Cana is recommending Ajax stopper Onana this time. Cana worked with Onana in the Barcelona youth setup and now wants a reunion.

Onana is Arsenal’s best option

Onana can’t play until November due to a ban for a doping violation, though that has been reduced from 12 months to nine.

The Cameroonian stopper is immensely talented and still has huge potential to develop at just 25, meaning he could be Arsenal’s long-term first-choice stopper.

NOS claim that Onana can be signed for around £8million due to the ban and him being inside the final year of his contract, whilst it’s stated that Edu has promised Onana a first-choice role at Arsenal.

Arsenal fans may be sceptical of Cana after Runarsson, but Onana is on a completely different level to Runarsson, and would almost certainly be a better addition.
