It wasn’t a good day for Arsenal’s Nuno Tavares on Saturday night.
Arsenal were hammered 4-0 away at Liverpool.
The Portuguese left-back produced an error-strewn display and one of those mistakes directly led to Jurgen Klopp’s side scoring.
It was only the 21-year-old’s fourth start in the Premier League following a move from Benfica this past summer.
One of the posititves to come out since has been Arsenal fans’ reaction to his performance.
Tavares was spotted standing hunched over on the pitch at Anfield directly after the final whistle, cutting a dejected figure.
But fans of the North London club offered positive sentiments about him on Twitter – and one teammate was vocally supportive, too.
According to Football London, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, who came on directly after the mistake, could be heard shouting, ‘Keep going Nuno’ in support of the youngster.
Bounce back
Tavares will absolutely come back stronger.
There’s a lot of brilliant players who make mistakes on the big stage early in their career.
But rarely does it define them as footballers and this won’t be a defining moment for the Arsenal star, who cost £7 million.
Remember, there’s a good reason as to why Mikel Arteta saw fit to use him ahead of someone like Kieran Tierney and it’s because his pre-Liverpool form had been stunning.
And there’s no doubt he’ll get back to that.
