Barcelona are planning to terminate the contract of central defender Samuel Umtiti amid summer links with a move to Everton.

That’s according to Catalan newspaper SPORT, who claim that Barca tried to reduce Umtiti’s wages without any success.

Their plan now is to terminate Umtiti’s contract early given that he will become a free agent in 2023.

Barca just don’t want Umtiti around anymore. The Frenchman has been so injury prone that he just isn’t going to play.

The 28-year-old was a World Cup winner with France in 2018, but it has all gone downhill for him since then.

Since winning the World Cup, Umtiti has managed just 29 league starts.

With none to his name this season, Umtiti’s days at Barcelona are clearly numbered.

So where could he go? Well, Everton fancied Umtiti over the summer.

The Mirror reported in August that Everton were hoping to sign Umtiti. Everton allegedly believed that the lure of Rafael Benitez would tempt him into signing.

Umtiti allegedly earns a staggering £212,000-a-week at Barcelona, and Everton are in no position to match those wages.

Having barely played over the last three years and suffered major injury blows, Everton may be better off looking elsewhere than Umtiti.
