Robbie Keane has said on Sky Sports Premier League (6:54pm, November 21, 2021) that Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips was not happy with Marcelo Bielsa following the match against Tottenham Hotspur.

Keane believes that Phillips did not want to play in defence for Leeds against Spurs at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The England international is a midfielder by trade.

However, against Spurs in the Premier League tonight, Phillips played alongside Liam Cooper in central defence.

And he did well against Tottenham striker Harry Kane and kept him quiet.

The 25-year-old pushed into midfield in the second half.

After the match, Phillips told Sky Sports that he did not know why Bielsa played him in defence.

What Robbie Keane has said

Keane said on Sky Sports Premier League (6:54pm, November 21, 2021): “I felt like from Kalvin’s interview there that he wanted to say a little bit more than what he did. I don’t think he will probably be too happy with where he was playing.”

The former Leeds and Tottenham striker added: “There’s definitely something there that he wanted to say a little bit more.”

Why did Kalvin Phillips play in defence?

Leeds head coach Bielsa has explained why Phillips started in defence.

The Argentine told BBC Sport: “Harry Kane is a forward who likes to drop to pick up the ball. Of our defenders Kalvin is the best to take up that role to deal with him when he drops. He did very well.”

Now, what is interesting is that Bielsa did not explain to Phillips why he was playing at the back.

Well, it seems that way from the midfielder’s interview to Sky Sports after the match.

The England international clearly knew his job and did it well, but perhaps the Argentine should have given him more information.
