Melkamu Frauendorf was spotted in Liverpool first-team training yesterday after being called up by Jurgen Klopp.

What’s the story?

With a number of Liverpool’s senior players away on international duty, Klopp has been keen to provide the club’s youngsters with a chance to impress.

Liverpool are currently preparing for their match against Arsenal on Saturday, with some young players needed to fill in due to so many absences.

Kaide Gordon, Tyler Morton, Mateusz Musialowski, Max Woltman, James Norris and Jarell Quansah were all in senior training yesterday.

And they were joined by Frauendorf, who has been making quite the impression at under-18 level for the Reds this term.

The German attacking midfielder has claimed four goals and three assists in just 11 games for Liverpool’s youth team.

He joined Liverpool from Hoffenheim just over a year ago, and now seems to be developing into a real future star

Catching the eye

Frauendorf is capable of playing right across the front line, and his versatility is a major asset.

He only signed his first professional deal with the club over the summer, but his progress has been vast.

At 17 he was one of the youngest players in first-team training yesterday, which suggests that the club have very high hopes for him.

Frauendorf also has captained Germany at under-16 level, with his country keeping a close eye on him.

Although his Liverpool debut is unlikely to be imminent, his call-up yesterday should give him real encouragement for the future.

And he will have benefitted from training with the likes of Thiago Alcantara and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain over the international break.
