Lucas Moura named Mousa Dembele as the player he misses most at Tottenham Hotspur, in an interview on Twitch.
A big miss
Dembele was sold by Tottenham in 2019, and it is arguable that they have never been able to replace his talents on the pitch since.
Spurs did sign Tanguy Ndombele as a like-for-like replacement, but he hasn’t reached the same standards of the Belgian.
When Spurs players were asked who the best player at Tottenham was during Dembele’s time at the club, he was almost always the selection – even above Harry Kane.
And Moura admits that he still really misses the 34-year-old at Spurs.
“On the pitch I miss Mousa Dembele, a really incredible player. He was the best midfielder I have seen,” he said.
“I miss a lot of players, football gave me a lot of friends and a lot of good players that I play with.”
Where is Mousa Dembele now?
Since leaving Tottenham, Dembele has been playing in China for Guangzhou City.
He has made 37 appearances for his new side, where he has scored one goal.
His ability to hold players off and break through opposition side’s pressing structures was almost unrivalled.
Dembele’s partnerships with Victor Wanyama was one of the finest midfielder pairings that Tottenham have been able to call upon in recent memory.
Ultimately he was sold for just £11 million by Spurs (BBC Sport), as he had just months remaining on his contract when he was let go and Daniel Levy decided it was better to raise some funds rather than let him go on a free.
