David Unsworth is convinced Everton have a star on their hands in the shape of Premier League 2 shot-stopper Harry Tyrer, speaking to the Toffees’ website after the EFL Trophy clash with Hartlepool United.
The Crosby-born Evertonian may be the cream of the current Finch Farm crop.
One of the most talented up-and-coming goalkeepers in the country, Tyrer has been turning heads at U23 level for a while.
So much so, according to Unsworth, barely a day goes by without the 19-year-old testing his mettle against Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Richarlison and co behind the scenes. Tyrer is now a regular fixture in Rafael Benitez’s first-team training sessions.
Unsworth sings the praises of Everton starlet Tyrer
“He trains with the first team every day,” Unsworth said, singling Tyrer out for praise after another commanding display during a narrow 1-0 defeat to their League Two hosts last night.
Tyrer will now look to follow in the footsteps of Joao Virginia, the Everton academy graduate who forced his way into Carlo Ancelotti’s plans last season before embarking on a loan spell at Portuguese champions Sporting Lisbon.
“(Tyrer) is a great lad and probably the best goalkeeper we’ve had at this level alongside Joao,” Unsworth adds. “Harry’s got a fine career ahead of him.”

Tyrer has yet to make his senior bow but was included in the match-day squad for October’s 1-0 Premier League defeat to West Ham United.
With Jordan Pickford and Asmir Begovic ahead of him in the Toffees’ pecking order – and with no European football on offer at Goodison Park for the time being – it remains to be seen whether the Merseyside native will be handed the opportunity to make a name for himself under Benitez before the season is out.
Fellow youngster Anthony Gordon has caught the eye during the odd first-team cameo in recent weeks, while Tyler Onyango also appears to be on the verge of a top-flight bow.
