Borussia Dortmund’s sporting director Sebastian Kehl has addressed speculation linking Jude Bellingham with Premier League giants Liverpool, telling Sport1 that there is no reason to believe the England star will leave in 2022.

What we wouldn’t give for a cursory glance at Bellingham’s birth certificate.

It is almost impossible to believe the Birmingham-born maestro is only 18, such is the maturity, confidence and composure with which he goes about his business on and off the pitch at Signal Iduna Park.

Already the driving force of a Dortmund midfield containing the far more experienced Emre Can and Axel Witsel, Bellingham dragged the German giants to a 3-1 victory away at Arminia Bielefeld on Saturday, stepping into the void created by Erling Haaland’s injury-enforced absence with a swaggering solo goal that went a long way to explaining why BVB have slapped a £100 million price-tag on his head.

According to BILD, Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool will have to stump up a club-record fee to sign a man who was just 14 months old when Michael Owen swapped Anfield for Real Madrid in August 2004.

Footballers really do seem to be getting younger and younger don’t they?

Could Jude Bellingham join Liverpool in 2022?

Dortmund are no strangers to speculation at this stage, however, and Kehl is losing little sleep despite uncertainty surrounding the future of another of the club’s rising stars.

“He is a Borussia Dortmund player and remains a Borussia Dortmund player. There is no release clause (in his contract),” the sporting director said, before indicating that there is truth in reports linking Bellingham with the 2020 Premier League winners.

“He has a market that could not only mean Liverpool. It’s good that we talk about (the future of) our players. It shows that we are doing something right.

“We can offer a lot at Borussia Dortmund. We want to win titles, but we have to keep the guys for that.

“(Jude) is loved. He enjoys that. There are no signs that he could leave Dortmund anytime soon.”

Arguably the most exciting and complete English talent of his generation, Bellingham has been compared to a ‘young Steven Gerrard’ by one former Liverpool ace.
