Mats Hummels has professed his love for Borussia Dortmund teammate and reported Liverpool target Jude Bellingham, telling DAZN he’s the “most mature 18-year-old I’ve ever seen”.

When watching the England international strut his stuff in the heart of Marco Rose’s midfield, you’d be forgiven for forgetting most teenagers his age are planning for their A-levels, not thinking about how to destroy Bayern Munich’s decade of dominance.

Bellingham only turned 18 in June but is already putting together an enviable catalogue of man of the match performances on the biggest stages, producing a goal and assist during last week’s 2-1 Champions League win at Besiktas.

And just two months after finally accepting defeat and selling Jadon Sancho to Manchester United, Dortmund have already found themselves at the centre of another ‘will he, won’t he’ transfer saga – one that might end up with one of Britain’s biggest talents swapping the banks of the Rhine for England’s north west.

Can Liverpool lure Dortmund star Jude Bellingham to England?

The likes of The Times and Sport1 claim Liverpool are keen on former Birmingham City wonder kid Bellingham.

The Star believes Jurgen Klopp’s side could test the waters with an opening bid in the region of £80 million for an all-action, all-round midfield general in the mould of a “young Steven Gerrard”.

“He is the most mature 18-year-old player I have ever seen,” says Hummels, the veteran defender who has won pretty much all there is to win in professional football, translated by the Daily Mail.

“Jude is already someone who leads the way and also one of the loudest in the team. He’s a great kid. I think I’ve told him about 25 times now that I love him.”

Unfortunately for Hummels, his love affairs tend to burn brightly and quickly.

Sancho has gone, Erling Haaland has a £67 million release clause that will come into effect next year and you can bet your bottom dollar Liverpool aren’t the only club batting their eyelashes in Bellingham’s direction.
